First Car Wreck We Didn't Cause
It happened several months ago while driving home from Seminary. It was the age old situation where you get stopped behind someone who is turning, they start to roll forward, you look over your shoulder to make sure you are clear, then slam on your gas to "shoot the gap" BEFORE checking to make sure the car in front of you has actually turned. Rookie mistake.
Funny thing was after he hit the car he slammed on the brakes as I was simultaneously yelling at him and so he assumed he had done the wrong thing and proceeded to let off the brake and step on the gas. For the life of me I couldn't figure out what the heck he was doing. I followed that up with more yelling "STOP, Stop what the heck are you doing!". After that he wasn't confused anymore.
The rest of the story is very long and drawn out as is any vehicle confrontation in India. There must be hours of sitting around talking and analyzing the situation before you can even think about a resolution. The idea being, to convince anyone who will listen its the other guys fault and to see how much money you can squeeze from them in the process. It didn't help that technically Big T doesn't have a license and shouldn't have been driving in the first place. Suffice it to say after an hour and a half of sitting around trying to resolve the situation Richard showed up and me and the kids left. A half hour later it was resolved. What can I say, Richard is a man who can get things done. Didn't hurt that he nearly ran the man over when he wouldn't get out from in front of the vehicle that was taking me and the kids home.... again, LONG story!
Initially we offered the other driver 2500 rs (approx. $55USD) and he scoffed at me. When we paid to have it fixed a few days later it only cost us 16000 rs (approx $30USD) to fix the bumper good as new. Repair work is extremely inexpensive here. He should have taken our offer instead of holding out for more. Come to find out later it was a government vehicle that he could have gotten fixed free of charge and simply pocketed whatever money he got from us. He thought since we were white foreigners he would go-for-the-gold but because he was so greedy he ended up with nothing!
Holy-Giant-Balls-of-Hail-Batman!
We all stood at the windows in awe of this awesome display and amazing feat of Mother Nature...after all, we've had recent temperatures as high as 113 degrees. Guess that's why they call it Climate Change!
Because there is a serious cockroach issue in India almost everywhere you go you will notice little white moth balls in all the drains of bathrooms, sinks and showers. After taking the these pictures Little T says "They look like the toilet thingees Mom". We all had a good chuckle about that!

Childhood Memories
This is how my cute, little 6 year old son left the house this morning for school. Bring back any childhood memories of your own? Leg warmers, tube socks, tucking the bottom of your shirt through the neck hole to make a cute little mid-drift.... you know you did it!

Girls just wanna have Fun...
Julie had a week of time share available for use and since our hubbies had just recently come back from their excursion to Mt. Everest, she decided we should do a 'girls' vacation and luckily I got to be one of the 'girls'. Yeah for me!
Anyway, all of the above pictures we took in the Singapore airport. What an amazing place. It was more like a mall than an airport. Complete with gyms, salons (where we got foot massages), restaurants, free internet access, playgrounds, X-Box play stations where you could play free video games, and as you see in the pictures a beautifally landscaped pond full of HUGE coy. At first I thought the plants were all fake but...NOPE! What a great beginning to a lovely vacation!
One of the fist things we did after we arrived and hit the beach was get some Henna tatoos. If you can't tell, I love temporary tatoos. So much fun. By the time we left Bali we each had 3. These pics were taken in UBUD at a place call Monkey Forest. Obviously named for the MASS amounts of moneys. As you can see they were pretty friendly, one even took a little swing from my purse and another one crawled up my arm onto my hat and then up a tree. SO cool! I love monkeys!
I NEED muSic!
I'm completely bored with all the songs in my "Running List". I run at least 3 times a week (thank you...yes, thank I know) and I am finding it very hard to stay Motivated with the same 'ol songs!
Please give me one or two suggestions of your favorite motovating songs that you exercise to. Be sure to use the Chat Wall to the right > so everyone can see your wonderful suggestions.

Parenting Joys
.....little T locked his room with all the keys in his room today. I don't know what he is going to wear to school tomorrow as all his cloths are in his room and he wore a swim suit for most of the day today! Thinking about putting him in some of Mishy's cloths to teach him a lesson.
Also he had a poopin accident today and a piece of it feel on Mishy's floor. He didn't tell me about it and so he ground it into the carpet trying to clean it up and then put Mishy's little green carpet thingy on top of it! What a
day!

Everest in a Nutshell...a big nutshell!
The following is a culmination of notes taken by Dave McIllece. A day to day inventory in bullet form. You will see the names Shishir & Pampha several times--Shishir was their guide and Pampha their travel agent. If you don't have the energy to read all the bullets be sure you at least scroll down to see all the pics.
Base Camp Adventurers: Seiperts (Richard, Morgann, Taylor), Byrnes (Al, Matt, Cam, Grandpa Buzz), and McIlleces (Dave, Zac).
Between the three families there were almost 6000 pictures taken. Obviously I cannot post all 6000 but I have done my best to include as many of the most relevent and dinamic photos possible. Enjoy!

PERFECT sunshine, no wind day – AWESOME!
Steep climb up to Labouche Pass –
Many memorial stone piles at pass to those who perished climbing surrounding peaks
Continued to terminus of Khumbu glacier
hiked to west edge, although Glacier was hidden by a ridge
Arrived at Labouche early by 11am
Decided to do a quick outing to see the glacier – Richard, Morgann, Dave
Glacier nearly all melted, sort of disappointing, just large ravine of rock and soil debris,
some glacial remnants still visible – else receded as far up as we could see.
Another high glacier to the west
hiked across valley to investigate
ended up in another glacial debris field
loose boulders and soil, very unstable
Good Analogy – how firm a foundation
with light step, HUGE boulders would shift and move, dangerous, unstable
had to quickly hop from the stones that moved (appeared firm, but no real foundation – no matter how massive they appeared)
used trek pole to “test the soil” and rocks
apparently solid ground gave way to slightest pressure, even if grasses growing on it
returned
Richard, Al set out on second walkabout came back cold at 3:30 or so
sun down by 5:30
Hung out in lodge
played bridge hot seat
38 people in lodge – lots! in 20ft x 20 ft space

Cruising down hill
arrived, passed through Labouche about 10 am
passed through Dughla about 10:30

Slept in till 8:30! YES!
Call from Taylor – “we’re all down here…”
Rose, bathed/showered, AWESOME!
Breakfast at CafĂ©’ Buffet – AWESOME!
Zac joined Taylor, Cam, Buzz, Al in Sauna, hot tub, etc.
pool hopping outside too
Dave back to room to update notes
plan to hit town at 11 am
Went in taxis to thamel; shop, shop, shop
Ate lunch at Krua Thai restaurant…good pad thai, but Byrne’s food Never came!!! Bad Service…
Finally delivered with much complaint
Went across road to get Thai foot massage…and head, neck too. All but Richard
Loaded up in company van and off to Pampha’s home.
Pampha treated to feast of takeout and home cooked chicken, lamb, etc.
Met her family – husband is a very successful flooring and furniture businessman!
Kids got along well with Pampha’s son and daughter…filled in ‘friends book’
Power outage while there…VERY COLD in her home. Most of us unprepared for temps
Left and returned to hotel by 9:30 or so. Back home to hit showers and baths
Dave called Ange, asked for call-back. Telecom lines terrible, but managed to chat for a while.
Slept like rocks!
Hike Day 18: January 5th, 2009
Kathmandu to Delhi Return Day
Arose and enjoyed Breakfast at Hotel
Ended up paying for rooms…Pampha’s cash back used to pay airport fees (ridiculous scam by Nepali gov’t!) and Shishir/Mickey tips. Worked out well
Rode from Hotel to Fire and Ice for one last meal, most got ice cream – lots of it!
Pampha left us with scarves and warm thank yous
Dropped off Al and Buzz near embassy
Seiperts, McIllece’s. Matt and Cam went to airport
Fought the crowds, through security
Richard is questioned…about his rocks!!
“These are weapons” argument…Made Richard go below and place in checked baggage…inane! arbitrary! absurd!
All made the flight – smooth, but bad food (that we had to buy!)
Baggage made it fast
Al and Buzz followed later
Home by 5 PM!
This last photo collage is of Richard taking out Mo's braids and removing all the fake hair that had been braided into them. Then Al and Dave decided to play a little "dress up".

Day 18
Fly to Kathmandu O/N in Hotel Vaishali
They should be arriving home tomorrow evening. We are all very excited. I'm curious to see if they really 'didn't lose any weight. So curious to hear their experiences, their trials, their accomplishments. I was thinking last night how many 13 year old girls can say they have climbed to base camp Everest. Mo will be in a very small minority as will the rest of the 'boys' eventhough it is more common for men to climb. Anyway, get ready for the onslought of Everest pictures once they are downloaded and ready to post. R told me he took over 2000 pics as did Dave and Allan. R was also supposed to be taking video journals with the cam corder, hopefully I can figure out how to load them onto the blog and you can experience true "survivor" moments.
Stay tunes to find out who gets voted off the mountain next! :)

Fellowship Day 15 "It's all down hill from here"
As far as they could tell no one has lost a lot of weight which was one the biggest concerns as there were several of them who had no room for error in that regard, R being one of them.
They are combining the next two days into one in hopes to get home a day sooner. I hope all goes well!
Lobuche to Pengboche (2900 m / 5 hours / 12795 ft).
You can feel this trail similar as hiking to Namche. You can get a fertile crescent shaded by trees for which you wish to have look. You can the houses of Sherpa and Tibetan, can feel the Mt. Ama Dablam dominating from the far side of the valley, which shows you the real picturesque mountain of the region. Further you can explore the local temple (Pengboche Gompa), the oldest in the Khumbu region. You can too meet the friendly lama (monk) and can see the famous "yeti scalp" as well as some lovely paintings.
Pengboche to Namche (3450 m / 5 hours / 11319 ft).
Now the trail retrace same way back and stop at Tengboche, during the November - December full moon the colourful Mani Rimdu festival is held here with much singing and dancing. Height 3480m.
*The English skills in this itinerary leave somthing to be desired, but at the same time makes for comical reading.
